Featuring junior and senior metal token hunts, gold panning knockouts, detector demonstrations for beginners, generous prizes, town garage sales and night entertainment, the annual jamboree has become a must-do on prospectors' calendars since its beginnings in 1998 - both for the competition and the chance to catch up with fellow enthusiasts.
The authentic gold detecting event will take place at Hard Hill Tourist Reserve in Wedderburn, less than a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Melbourne.
The major senior detector token hunt prize is a GPX 5000 Metal Detector, valued at $4999 and donated by Minelab.
With entry fees starting from $45 for senior participants (free for spectators), the program gets underway with breakfast and registration at 6.45am on Saturday, followed by Coiltek detector demonstrations every two hours to introduce beginners to prospecting.
The day continues with a detailed briefing before contestants head out to the bush to search for this year's allocation of metal tokens on Sunday.
