Six ways to explore the Kimberley in winter

The northern Western Australia region is one of the most awe-inspiring wilderness adventures in the world, offering ancient culture, other-worldly landscapes and incredible natural encounters.

With new growth and greenery also come several new experiences in 2024; here's six of the best.

Near Cyget Bay, try the Women's Only Exclusive Bardi and Jawi Cultural Experience of Oolin Sunday Island. Jawi woman Rosanna Angus takes you on a four-night experience discovering the local Bardi and Jawi women's culture and 'secret women's business'. Try fishing, oystering, and collecting bush tucker and bush medicine when staying at the accommodation spot.

By road: The opening of a new Fitzroy River Bridge has restored access to both sides of Kimberley. It runs over the Martuwarra River and connects the eastern and western parts of Kimberley along the Great Northern Highway. This also helps make exploring the region by four-wheel-drive easier.

By aeroplane: Jetstar Asia will run a seasonal service between Singapore and Broome, operating twice weekly from June 25 to October 26, 2024. Domestically, Nexus Airlines launched its Northern Route in July 2023, departing from Broome, bound for Kununurra before heading onwards to Darwin.
